Dr. Sonya Bryant, MD, PhD

Dr. Bryant's achievements in medical education and training are both remarkable and varied. For four years, she attended Wayne State University School of Medicine where her remarkable academic achievements earned her prestigious scholarships and the school's highest honors including the Distinguished Service Award. In addition to this, she also won Outstanding Ophthalmology Research Honors and was named a recipient of the Distinction in Biomedical Research Award. Continuing on with excellence at UCSF during her residency program, Dr. Smith presented "The Best Clinical Research Paper by a Resident" while competing for first place in the National Medical Association’s Rabb-Venable Ophthalmology Research Competition - which she ultimately achieved!

Having concluded her fellowship at the Tufts New England Eye Center, Dr. Bryant was proudly selected to be The Retina Society's ambassador in the esteemed American Academy of Ophthalmology Ambassador Program. Being selected for such an honor granted her the opportunity to attend and partake in the Mid-Year Forum of AAO, which encompassed a Congressional Advocacy Day. During this day she and other participants visited legislators on Capitol Hill to converse regarding significant dilemmas faced by ophthalmology professionals.

Dr. Bryant is highly accredited by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and has proudly contributed to the AAO’s Consultant-Membership Advisory Committee as a member. She is a Clinical Associate in the Tufts University School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology and an Assistant Staff member of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
